ABOUT US

Keep Moving Suffolk is a local campaign to support & encourage people to get active and stay active, in response to the Coronavirus outbreak.

We are backing Sport England’s ‘Join The Movement’ campaign.

Coronavirus (COVID-19)

Keeping active at home has never been so important

Keep Moving Suffolk is a local campaign to keep people active in and around their own homes, in response to the Covid-19 virus.

The virus has resulted in our routines changing as we all help to stop the spread.

We are backing Sport England’s national campaign called ‘Join the Movement’ which seeks to bring greater attention to #StayInWorkOut – and inspire and inform the public about the many fun, and creative ways they can keep moving, The national campaign website is www.stayinworkout.org

Our aim with ‘Keep Moving Suffolk’ is to inspire and encourage people to stay active, move or move more, by sharing ideas, tips, useful links and positive stories during these unprecedented times, using the hashtag #KeepMovingSuffolk.

The website and our social channels will be constantly updated.

Official advice is to stay at home, and to only go outside for one form of exercise a day, either alone or with members of your own family, as long as you follow the 2-metre social distancing measures.

Social distancing may be difficult or frustrating, affecting our mood and feelings, which in turn could lead to unhealthy patterns of behaviour and periods of inactivity.

So there has never been a more important time to get active and stay active, and with this in mind, we have collated links and resources to cater for all abilities, ages and fitness levels.

All the information provided below has been researched from external, trusted providers, however, Keep Moving Suffolk is not responsible for the content on external websites.

Remember to check government advice if you think you have any symptoms linked to coronavirus.

OUR CAMPAIGN CHAMPIONS

Zoe Newson  Paralympian

“I am supporting the campaign as I love my sport and I just want people to get involved in sport. It keeps you fit and healthy.”

Read Zoe's Bio

Powerlifter and double Paralympic bronze medalist.

I have travelled the world for the Paralympics, worlds, Europeans and commonwealth games.

My first competition was in 2008 at Cardiff. Sometimes it’s hard being an athlete and a mum but I always find a way of doing both.

Barry Goldstone

“I fully endorse Keep Moving Suffolk. Hopefully, I can encourage others, even in these difficult times, to keep fit and stay healthy, both in body & mind”

I am now retired but have always followed an active lifestyle. In my younger days it was football , rugby, cricket, skiing and golf. Now it is running, cycling, gym classes and dog walking.

I’m a UK Athletics Endurance coach and have completed 15 marathons and still run regularly up to Half Marathon distance. At 68 years of age, having had 10 knee operations and also a heart condition, I’m slower now but the important thing is I’m still out there keeping fit.

Over the last years I have also been a lead coach on the Great East Run Outreach Programme in Suffolk which has helped promote a more active lifestyle for those who have struggled with exercise in the past.

I feel it is so important to keep active, whatever your age and I fully endorse the Keep Moving Suffolk campaign. Hopefully I can encourage others even in this difficult times to keep fit and stay healthy both in body and mind.

I took up exercising seriously in 2013 after suffering from PTSD after injury in the Forces and my weight had ballooned to over 25st. Exercise helped me physically to lose 12 stone but even more so helped me mentally.

“On behalf of The Tours, I fully support this campaign and hope that it inspires people to create more active routines and to Keep Moving now and well into the future.”

Bridgett Goldstone

“Being used to exercising in large groups I’m going to find the next months challenging, but by supporting Keep Moving Suffolk I hope to inspire others to join me in a fitter, healthier and happier lifestyle.”

Read Bridgett's Bio

Since the start of the coronavirus outbreak I have never felt so thankful that I have taken time out every day to stay fit, healthy and active.

Having previously been very ill with kidney failure i was fortunate to receive a kidney transplant in 1991. After my transplant I was determined to make the most of every day and started to run to keep fit. I was subsequently selected to represent GB at 3 World Transplant Games, winning gold, silver and bronze medals at each event.

As a kidney transplant patient the NHS has identified me as someone at extremely high risk of being severely ill if I contract Coronavirus and at a higher risk of needing hospital care.

I now face the challenge of a 3 month isolation period, but I know that because I have always given time to keeping myself as fit and healthy as possible, I have given myself the best possible chance of survival.

I equally recognise that my usual daily routine of working out at the health club, and going for regular runs with my husband Baz, will no longer happen, and it is now more important than ever that I keep myself fit, both physically AND MENTALLY (and exercise is brilliant for combatting stress and anxiety).

Me and my husband have been coaching runners for over 25 years and we are passionate about helping others enjoy the benefits that a healthy lifestyle can bring.

To get through this period we all need to keep positive, keep our anxieties to the minimum and I know from personal experience just how much a little exercise each day can help us all achieve this.

WHY KEEP MOVING?

Whatever your age, there’s strong scientific evidence that being physically active can help you lead a healthier and happier life.

People who exercise regularly have a lower risk of developing many long-term (chronic) conditions, such as heart disease, type 2 diabetes, stroke, and some cancers.
