Organisers of the Festival of Suffolk Community Games are excited to announce that the event partners, Vertas are offering free transport for families across the county.

The free event which is scheduled to take place from the Bury St Edmunds Leisure Centre and King Edward VI School facilities on Saturday 9th July, will provide a unique opportunity for participants to take part in non-traditional sporting activities such as BMX, climbing, circus skills, dance, paddleboarding and skateboarding.

In addition to the activities open to try on the day, the Suffolk FA Wildcats festival and the Eastern Regional Athletics Competition hosted by Special Olympics Suffolk will also be taking place, inviting local people to spectate.

As well as the opportunity to participate and spectate a range of exciting activities throughout the day, families and young people will also have the chance to visit the Ipswich Town Football Club Fanzone, witness the special visit of the Queen’s Baton Relay, that has been traveling around all the Commonwealth Countries ahead of the Commonwealth Games taking place in Birmingham next month, plus watch a spectacular performance by DanceEast as part of the events closing celebrations.

With thanks to Vertas, one of the events main partners, families are being given the opportunity to travel to the event via coach to help save on travel costs and reduce the impact on the environment, which aligns with one of the Festival of Suffolk’s key values.

James Payne, Senior Development Officer at Active Suffolk said:

“It has been our mission to ensure that the Festival of Suffolk Community Games is an inclusive event, allowing young people and their families to participate in activities which they may not ordinarily get the opportunity to do.
Partnering with Vertas has allowed us to support families from all four corners of the county to access the event, removing the cost of transport as a potential barrier, whilst also helping to reduce the impact on the environment.”

Coaches to the event will be available from the following locations on Saturday 9th July:
Lowestoft
Ipswich
Woodbridge
Mildenhall
Bungay
Beccles

Families wanting to attend the Festival of Suffolk Community Games and take advantage of the offer of free transport are required to book their place before midday on Wednesday 6th July at www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/suffolk-community-games-transport-tickets-376797470377

David Sheepshanks, Chair of the Suffolk Community Games Event Committee says:

“As part of the Festival of Suffolk we are excited to be putting on this very special and fun family day, where parents and their children can try their hand at various activities.
Vertas have been magnificent in putting on this free bus service which we hope will enable many more people to come and enjoy the day!”
