The new Love to Ride Suffolk campaign has got off to a flying start with a successful Cycle September challenge.

29 Suffolk organisations and 327 residents took part in the challenge recording a collective total of 3,374 journeys, covering 50,153 miles and saving 1,260 LBS CO2.

The challenge marks the start of a 14-month partnership with Love to Ride, a behaviour change and cycling encouragement programme to encourage friends, co-workers and the community to ride, support new riders to overcome their barriers and collect data on riding habits in order to inform future cycling infrastructure work.

Although Cycle September has now finished anybody can still get great rewards and prizes for signing up to Love to Ride Suffolk and getting out on their bike. Ride anywhere, anytime – to the shops, to work or even a quick 10 minute spin around your local park – to earn points and win amazing prizes!

Forthcoming challenges include Carbon Crusher, Light the Night and Winter Wheelers, all designed to break down the myths and barriers to cycling during the winter months.

It’s free to register and now open to children over the age of 13, so perfect for encouraging more secondary school pupils to consider cycling to school and being in with a chance of receiving some great rewards.

Backed by Public Health, Love to Ride aims to get more people on bikes in Suffolk. Cycling can help us restart the economy whilst maintaining social distancing. It also improves public health and will help protect our NHS as we move into the challenging period of Autumn and Winter. Every bike trip frees up space on public transport and the roads to help key workers get to essential jobs. Love to Ride supports the Government’s effort to double cycling trips by 2025 and to make the bicycle the default mode of transport for short journeys.
