Run For All is thrilled to announce a partnership with Suffolk County Council and Ipswich Borough Council, to organise the return of one of the region’s favourite events, the Larking Gowen Ipswich Half Marathon.
The Half Marathon will take place on Sunday 11 September with the event returning to run on the much loved town’s previous half marathon route, starting and ending at the iconic Ipswich Town FC stadium.
Not only is the event returning for 2022, but Run For All are proud to confirm that also returning will be one of the county’s largest accounting and business advisory firms Larking Gowen who will be taking on title sponsorship of the event for the next three years.
Working closely with key strategic partners Ipswich Town FC, Ipswich Jaffa Running Club and Larking Gowen, Run For All will be aiming to keep the county’s aspirations going to be recognised as the most active county in England.
With community and charity at its core, Run For All will look to increase both community and charity engagement and work to remove barriers to participation.
It will be 39 years since the inaugural Ipswich Half Marathon which saw 501 finishers cross the line and in 2022 it’s hoped thousands will return to the streets and enjoy the scenic town and countryside route, including the waterfront, views of the iconic Orwell Bridge, and the Ipswich Town stadium.
Cllr Andrew Reid, Suffolk County Council’s Cabinet Member for Public Health and Public Protection said: “We are delighted that the Larking Gowen Ipswich Half Marathon will be returning this year and look forward to working with Run For All as a supporting partner to make it one the highlights of the Suffolk calendar.”
“We all know the benefits that regular physical activity can have on our mental and physical wellbeing and events such as these can act as a catalyst to inspire more people to get active, whilst raising much needed funds for local good causes.”
Run For All is a not for profit company that is part of the lasting legacy of the late amateur athlete and fundraiser Jane Tomlinson CBE. Jane, from Leeds, made headlines around the world by taking part in a series of incredible endurance events – despite being diagnosed with an incurable cancer.
Providing a fundraising vehicle for charities is the primary objective of every Run For All race, ensuring that the money being raised by the event stays local and supports the causes that needs them most.
Any charities interested in becoming an Official Charity Partner – whether involved with the previous Half Marathon or not – are encouraged to contact Run For All as soon as possible.
“It’s an honour to be part of this incredible community event. When Jane and I set up Run For All in 2007 our aim was always to create events that removed barriers to participation and that embraced the communities across the town or city.” said Jane’s husband Mike, Chief Executive of Run For All.
“Working with Larking Gowen the Council, Football club and Ipswich Jaffa, we hope to highlight the incredible communities at the heart of this town, inspire people to take part regardless of age or ability and join us for day of celebration.”
Larking Gowen Partner Ian Fitch said: “As a previous long-time supporter of such a great event we are really pleased to be involved, once again, in the Ipswich Half Marathon. Run for All is an excellent organisation enabling local charities to raise much needed funds.
“We are committed to the engagement and support of our local community and our people, and this event provides us with an opportunity to meet that commitment. There is so much on offer in this region and this event will help to raise the profile of Suffolk and highlight the importance of wellbeing for all.
Key to the success of any event like this is partnerships and so Run For All is incredibly proud to be working with Ipswich Jaffa, Ipswich Town Football Club and Larking Gowen; all key players in the local community.
Not only will Run For All be working with them on the main event but Ipswich Jaffa is planning to deliver weekly training sessions on the build up to race day to keep runners motivated and training on track.
Alison Beech, Chair of Ipswich Jaffa Running Club said: “The club is thrilled to be working with Run for All whose core values and motivations are so closely aligned to our own. This is great news for the region’s runners, fundraisers, charities, and the wider community.”
Run For All is part of Jane Tomlinson’s lasting legacy. Jane Tomlinson CBE raised £1.85m for children’s and cancer charities before her untimely death from cancer aged just 43 in 2007. She made headlines across the world by competing in a series of epic endurance challenges from the London Marathon, ironman and triathlon competitions, to a 4,200 mile cycle ride across the width of the USA – despite being diagnosed with incurable cancer.
Her family continue to raise funds in her name, and through the Jane Tomlinson Appeal and Run For All, a massive £10m has now been raised for charities.
